Heligoland - Germany's only deep-sea island
Germany has lots of islands but only one genuine deep-sea island - Heligoland. Circa 70 kilometres off the Schleswig- Holstein mainland rises the red sandstone rock with its green land up out of the sea.
And with that, it was really tight for the district of Pinneberg to claim such a deep-sea island for itself. Only a few kilometres were the deciding factor.
Small but oho!
Heligoland is not really that small. One square-kilometre lowland and one square-kilometre highland that's already two square-kilometres. And then there is the Düne (dune). Altogether that ammounts to a total area of 3,7 km2. This is big enough for the island to hold the annual Heligoland marathon.
Nature without cars
From the Big Anna to the guillemot rock, Heligoland has a lot to offer. Don't forget the white beaches. And did you know, that Heligoland is Germany's iodine and oxygen richest place? For sure, on the whole island there is not one car to be heard and that means there are no poisonous emissions. Nature pure, well - everywhere!
High-speed arrival adventure
The only question is now, when are you going to Heligoland? If you make the decision, then you should turn the arrival into a special event. Take the Speedways Katamaran over the Elbe to Heligoland. For overnight stays we recommend the hotel atoll Heligoland.
